Reception of 2400 asylum seekers in Montreal, Canada

 Philippe_Couillard's government has announced that 2,400 asylum seekers are living in temporary asylum centers in Montreal, Canada.

According to La Presse, since July 2017, some 700 asylum applications have been processed, so they have been able to find accommodation through community organizations.

In addition, 6505 asylum applications were processed in the province of Quebec by the federal government between January and June 2017.


Canada's Immigration Minister Kathleen_Weil said most asylum-seekers were of Haitian origin, as well as refugees of Indian, Mexican, Colombian and Turkish origin.

Thus, in general, there are more than 18,500 applications for asylum in Canada from January 1 to late June 2017, including 6,580 asylum applications in the province of Quebec alone, representing 35%.

By contrast, the year 2016 saw 23,895 asylum applications, of which Quebec had a large share of 5505 asylum applications.

According to government sources, the Canadian government expects an increase in the wave of asylum.
